Homework 4.2. Impact 25 Progress
Tiffany and I came up with a number of ideas for our Impact 25 project, trying to combine themes of emotions and thoughts on identity and the self.
When I first started thinking about these ideas, I was initially drawn to the concept of "Six Degrees of Separation," (Tammy just told me it was actually four now) and the consideration of how people can be linked across a wide span of space, time, culture, and personal identity. However, I was unsure of how to translate this to a physical artistic product, and Tiffany and I spent a great deal of time thinking about how this might work. We considered creating a sort of visual network of relationships among people, as a sort of web, working with a random group of people who might choose to participate in the project. The web of relationships could potentially be formulated online, where people could explore the array of information with a broad overview or by looking more closely.
Because Tiffany and I were both also interested in the idea of the selfie and "Selfie Culture," we also tried to combine this idea of interconnected relationships with selfies, possibly in the form of a photo-booth and a physical web of photographs. In this final product, some people might be connected and some might not, but if we were to do this in a smaller community such as Teachers College, I would imagine that there are a larger number of connections than we might even initially expect.
However, these ideas don't relate as strongly to the idea of emotionality and individual understanding of feelings and experiences, which is also something that Tiffany and I really wanted to explore through this project, because of how personal and often vulnerable these experiences and ideas can be. Because of that, I think we are really starting to lean towards the bath bomb idea (we make bath bombs, people log their mood before and after they use them on a website) that we also discussed, which would not only explore emotions but also try to add a little bit of peace and restoration to the lives of those who agree to work with us through this process. Rather than simply be organizers or researchers who are more removed from the actual experience and results of this project, this idea would also allow us to take an active role and, in a way, also be impacted by the project as much as those who are participating in it with us.

SELFIE MOOD BATH BOMBS: We give people bath bombs with a link and instructions; when we give them the bath bomb they have to take a selfie, and then they use it, and then tell us what their moods were before and after the bath bomb, etc. Then we could add filters to the photos to suit the mood (i.e. the mood after- look into the "aura portraits").
